History
When the Ursuline sisters ventured from France into the Ohio wilderness, they wasted no time carrying out their mission—settling, founding the Ursulines of Brown County, and eventually creating a first-of-its-kind day school. More than a century later, we instill the same confident, can-do spirit in our students. In 1896, Ursuline Academy was created in Cincinnati, Ohio. Current students follow in the same tradition of personal and academic excellence established by previous generations of Ursuline women, which is represented by the laurel wreath all Ursuline Academy graduates have donned on graduation day.
As Ursuline has evolved, our mission to educate young women has remained at the heart of everything we do.

Ursulines of Brown County
Ursuline Sister Julia Chatfield founded the Ursulines of Brown County, Ohio, eventually opening a boarding school serving young women until 1846. Their mission continues to live on in every young woman who attends UA.
Ursuline Day School
The Ursulines of Brown County fulfilled their dream of opening a day school in Cincinnati in 1896. The school sat on the corner of Oak and May, eventually growing and having to move to the corner of Oak and Reading, the campus home until 1970. Many well-known Ursuline traditions were developed in these buildings.

Carrying On Today
We’ve called Blue Ash our home for more than 50 years, carrying on cherished traditions from our founding. Service and faith experiences, our supportive community, and academic rigor connect students to the exceptional women who came before them and our longstanding Ursuline values.
