    Online Bookstore Now Open

Ursuline’s online bookstore is now open.  You may reach the store here:  http://bookstore.mbsdirect.net/ursulineohio.htm

To order textbooks, follow the "Order my books" link.  You will then be directed to a list of courses.  Place a check next to the courses that correspond to those listed on the schedule you recieved at the end of June.  Once you have made your selections, click the "Submit Course ID selections button at the bottom of the page.  You will see a list of materials required for those courses.  Used materials will be selected by default where available.  After reviewing the list, click the "Proceed to checkout" button on the bottom of the page. You will then be guided through the checkout process.

Because the State of Ohio provides many of the non-religious textbooks to Ursuline, many students have few, if any books to purchase.

FRESHMAN STUDENTS/NEW STUDENTS:  A Texas Instruments Graphing Calculator is also required.  We have found that parents/students receive the best pricing on these items buying them independently.  The required calculator is a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition.  For your convenience, there are product links for three retatilers below:

    amazon.com
    target.com
    walmart.com

Freshman students will be provided locks for lockers and safety goggles by Ursuline.  They will receive locks on Orientation Day, and goggles in their science classes.

If you have any questions you may contact the school during regular operating hours.

Ursuline Academy Hires Tom Barhorst as New Principal

    Ursuline Academy Hires
    Tom Barhorst as New Principal

Ursuline Academy has recently hired Mr. Thomas Barhorst to succeed Principal Adele Iwanusa who retired at the end of the 2009-2010 school year. Barhorst, of Mason, had served as assistant principal at Ursuline since 2007.  Previous to that he taught social studies with a focus on economics, government, and psychology to grades 11-12, and then moved on to the position of educational technology coordinator.  His key accomplishments in that role included identifying and planning the implementation of an improved student information system to integrate scheduling functions with grading, attendance, and other key administrative factors.  He served as liaison among the school, architectural firm, and contractors for the $3 M construction of a new gym, created and managed six-figure budgets for technology and maintenance, and initiated and implemented a technology outsourcing agreement.

Barhorst has a Master of Science degree with a major in educational leadership from the University of Dayton, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Xavier University. He says that he is excited about the opportunity to assume his new post for the coming school year.  "Ursuline is an outstanding school. We have a long tradition of excellence; we have a committed and talented faculty; we have intelligent, hard working students; we have parents who are actively involved and devoted to their daughters’ success; we have a unique and dynamic physical environment.  I think the major challenge I find is to build on the school’s success and find areas where we can improve further."

President Sharon Redmond says that Barhorst is a perfect fit as Ursuline’s principal. "He gets what it means to be an administrator in a Catholic school, which I think is different than being an administrator in any other school.  He is a person of integrity.  He will never compromise his professional integrity nor would he do anything to jeopardize the integrity of Ursuline Academy.  He is a person of strong character yet has a great sense of humor."  Redmond further explains that Barhorst’s career in academia came naturally as both of his parents and his sister are educators, and his father also served as the principal and president of Lehman Catholic High School in Sidney, Ohio where Barhorst grew up. In addition, Barhorst’s wife, Susan currently teaches science at Ursuline Academy.
