Robin Bierschenk of West Chester has been named the winner of the Sister
Xavier Ladrigan Excellence in Education Award at Ursuline Academy for the
2003-2004 school year. This award, the highest honor an Ursuline faculty member
can receive, takes in to account the nominations of other faculty and staff
members, students, alumnae and parents. Ms. Bierschenk, who directs Ursuline’s
music department, has tripled the number of students involved in one or more of
the many musical outlets she personally oversees. A member of the UA faculty for
seven years, Ms. Bierschenk studied at the University of Cincinnati where she
received her bachelor’s degree in music education as well as her M.M degree.
Excerpts from Mrs. Bierschenk’s nominations follow:
"Whether in the classroom, on stage, or during her free time, Mrs.
Bierschenk gives of herself to help make the music department the best it can
be. "
"Some of the groups she works with include Concert Choir, varsity and JV
Show Choir and Orchestra. Her energy that she devotes to our music department
truly shows in everything she does."
"She has been my mentor and calmed my fears of singing solos in public.
She had faith in me from the very beginning and gave me the chance to shine.
"
