Music Theory
I
½ credit, full year, college prep, meets 2 mods 3x a cycle
PREREQUISITES: Ability to play an instrument or sing and
permission of the instructor. Open to grades 10-12.
This course provides the student with a basic background in the
foundations of music theory including such essential elements as notation,
rhythmic and melodic dictation, ear training, keyboard and sight singing.
This course is essential for the student pursuing future studies in music.
Offered in alternating years with Music Theory II.
Music Theory II
½ credit, full year, college prep, meets 2 mods 3x a cycle
PREREQUISITES: Music Theory I or the equivalent demonstration of
knowledge and permission of the instructor.
This course is an extension of Music Theory I with more advanced
studies in the rudiments of music. Students explore the harmonic, melodic,
and formal elements of music, part writing, and form/analysis. This course
is essential for the student pursuing future studies in music. Offered in
alternating years with Music Theory I.
