    Instrumental Ensembles

     Sinfonia


    ½ credit, full year, college prep, meets 3 mods 2x a cycle

    PREREQUISITES: Successful audition or permission of the instructor. Open to grades 10-12. Private lessons are required.
     
    A highly select instrumental ensemble which will study and perform repertoire from the classical tradition. Participation in the Chamber Music Program required.
     
     
    Chamber Music Program
    ½ credit, full year, college prep, meets 2 mods 3x a cycle.
     
     
    PREREQUISITES: Previous instrumental experience preferred but not required. Private lessons are highly recommended. Open to all instrumentalists, including pianists.
     
    A class dedicated to the study of music for small instrumental ensembles, typically with one performer on a part. Playing chamber music requires a strong dedication to practice and improvement. Chamber music requires that students develop a greater musical independence and responsibility for their contribution to the ensemble. Performers will also be grouped by instrument to form the String Ensemble, Band, and Percussion Ensemble.
     
     
    String Ensemble
    ½ credit, full year, college prep (in conjunction with Chamber Music Program), meets 2 mods 1x a cycle.

    PREREQUISITES: Previous string experience required. Private lessons are required.
                   
    An ensemble dedicated to the study and performance of string ensemble literature. Students will be enrolled in the Chamber Music Program.
     
    Band
    Non-credit extracurricular, meets Tuesdays 3:45 – 4:45 p.m.

    This instrumental ensemble is designed for beginning players or instrumentalists who would like to try a secondary instrument. Experience players will participate in leadership roles. The goal of this ensemble is to develop a solid musical foundation and instrumental technique. Students enrolled in the Chamber Music Program will receive credit for attending afterschool rehearsals.
     
     
    Percussion Ensemble
    Non-credit extracurricular, meets Wednesday 3:45 – 5:15 p.m.

     
    An ensemble dedicated to the study and performance of group percussion music. Members will learn to play both traditional and non-traditional percussion instruments. This is an ideal ensemble for percussionists and pianists, but is open to any students. Students enrolled in the Chamber Music Program will receive credit for attending afterschool rehearsals.
