 Kairos Participants

KAIROS is fast approaching for you and the other students who will be participating. The Team and previous retreatants are excited for you and we have been praying for the success of this experience for all those involved.

Arrival and Departure

On Wednesday , the day of the retreat, you need to be in your homeroom at the start of the day.  Following homeroom – please gather your bags and go to school lobby.  Someone from the faculty will be there to check you in.  (You may leave your bags in the chapel prior to the start of school.)

If you are taking an early bird class you are expected to be present for that class on Wednesday.  Please limit your luggage to one suitcase.  The bus will be less crowded if you do!

The bus for Milford will leave Ursuline at 8:15 AM.  It is important that everyone be on time because we are on a tight schedule. Please meet in the school lobby.  The bus will bring you back to Ursuline on Friday by 4:30 PM for the closing Mass.

What to Bring
  • IF YOU HAVE MEDICATION WHICH YOU REGULARY TAKE – YOU MUST BRING A NOTE FROM YOUR PARENT STATING THAT YOU HAVE PERMISSION TO ADMINISTER YOUR OWN MEDICATION – OTHERWISE YOU ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE NO MEDICATION.  (When you arrive at school to depart, please give these notes to the Faculty Member who is accompanying you on your retreat.)
  • Bring casual, comfortable clothes, walking shoes and toiletries.  (Optional:  Your own pillow.)
  • Bring your own soft drinks/ water/ juice.   All beverages need to be in sealed containers. There is an ice machine you can use.
  • Bring a travel mug/cup with a lid for your own use outside the cafeteria.  Please bring a snack TO SHARE—enough for two people.  These will be made available at break times between meals.
  • You will need to bring the following supplies: pens, markers, a clean NEW folder with pockets and clips to hold loose-leaf paper, and some loose-leaf paper. If you have your own journal you can bring this as well.  These items are very important.

What Not to Bring
  • Cell phones, clocks, radios, tape players, or anything else along those lines. You won’t need them.  If you are seen with them, they will be taken away until the end of the retreat.
  • Do not bring alcohol, cigarettes or drugs. They will not be tolerated in any form. Because this is a school sponsored function the policies regarding Substance Abuse and the Use of Tobacco and Tobacco Products apply.  Please see the Student Handbook, Page 11 for details.  Please know now that there will be strict adherence to enforcing the policies.  The Kairos retreat continues to happen in part because of the way people handle themselves during their retreat. If you cannot be part of preserving the opportunity for other people, please consider whether or not you can participate at all.

What Happens on Retreat?

Retreat is a time away from your usual activities as a student.  It is a time directed toward getting to know yourself, God, and others better.  As you prepare for the retreat, though, please keep in mind that you are responsible for any work you missed while out of class. Please take the initiative to see your teachers to find out what work you need to do.  Also, if the teacher plans a test for THE DAY you will be back in class, you are expected to take the test that day unless you have made special arrangements with the teacher.   Teachers have been asked to be sensitive to the fact that Kairos is an important part of your year and they will try to adjust, but they need your cooperation.

All retreat activities will be over around 6:30 pm Friday evening.  Participation in this retreat requires that you be present from the very beginning to the very end.  Please do not plan on coming late or leaving early.

Come with open minds and hearts, leave all preconceived notions behind.  You’ve probably heard a lot about Kairos from siblings and friends.  While it is helpful to look forward to YOUR Kairos experience, try to be realistic about your expectations.  Kairos is different for each person and the best way to make it your own is to be open and make up your mind as you experience it.  If you come to it expecting a miracle, you’ll be disappointed.  But if you come with an open heart and mind, you’ll be blessed.  If you have any questions or concerns or just need to know more about it, please ask me.  I’ll be more than happy to talk with you ahead of time.

As we all get ready for this Kairos retreat, please pray for us and be assured that we will be praying for you!

Looking forward to Kairos!  Hopefully you’ll be able to enjoy some great weather during your time away!
