Class Descriptions

Saturdays Class + Practice Test:

For this course, the required material is the Barron’s How to Prepare for COOP, HSPT, TACHs, copyright 2005 or newer.  (Can be found at Barnes & Noble or on

Weeks 1-3:  The purpose of these three weeks is to provide test-taking strategies

and tips in both the English and Math portions of the HSPT test, cover some content review, and explain other helpful topics related to the high school entrance process.  These topics include high school entrance criteria, answer sheet strategies, and specific tips on preparing for the actual day of the test.  The students will spend time in both large group instruction as well as small group classes.

Week 4:  The goal of this week is to provide the students an opportunity to implement the strategies that they have been taught by taking a full-length practice HSPT test.  This test is a retired test from STS Testing Services.  The test will be graded manually and results sent by mail for students to review and identify areas of strength and weakness.

Online Course Description:

Due to popular demand of our 4 Saturdays class, we have now made it available online.  This online course might be a good option for those students or families who are not able to make it to the test prep sessions that are offered at Ursuline.  In addition, it allows the freedom and flexibility for the student to take the course at his/her own pace.

Registration of the online course gives you access to videos of the entire 4 Saturdays sessions: 3 hours of math instruction, 3 hours of English instruction, 3 classes that address general test-taking tips, entrance criteria for most high schools, and ways for students to be as prepared as possible for HSPT test day.

Most students find it very beneficial to practice the skills and strategies that are taught during these sessions by taking a full-length practice test upon completion of the course.  The online course does NOT include a practice test. Therefore, we are offering a practice test opportunity at Ursuline Academy for any student who would like to have the experience of taking a full-length practice test.  This practice test is a retired test from STS Testing Services.  The tests will be graded manually and results sent by mail for students to review and identify areas of strength and weakness.  The practice test day is NOT included in the price of the online course and must be registered for separately.

Practice Test Date:      November 12th 1-4pm   The cost of this practice test is $25.

*Please note that the policies and procedures in this document were developed with years of experience. Our intention is that the registration process will be easy and positive.  While we apply these policies consistently and fairly, we do understand that there are unanticipated circumstances.  Contact us if you have questions or concerns.

What if the session I want to register for is full?  Is there a waiting list?

Students are registered in the classes on a first come first served basis.  If we reach our maximum number of students, we will begin a waiting list for that class.  You will be contacted in the order in which we received your request for waiting list status.  Typically, these classes fill quickly, so please do not delay your registration.  Those students who are not able to take the 4 Saturdays class are urged to check out our online course option which includes all of the content from those classes.

I want to change my class session.  How do I do this?

Generally, we have been able to accommodate session change requests.  Sometimes requests cannot be accommodated if the desired session is full.  Please email session change requests to and include the following:  parent’s name, student’s name, currently registered session, desired session, and reason for change.  Session change requests will be accepted up until 7 days before the class start date.

What if I miss a class?

Due to the format of the class, makeups are not available.  Handouts are made available to students when they miss a class.  We are happy to answer any questions the students may have either before or after class.  Missed classes are not refunded.

If I must withdraw from a session before it begins, am I eligible for a refund?

Yes.  Refunds will be given for session withdraws up until 7 days before the class start date.  There will be a $15 refund fee for all cancellations.  No refunds will be given within the 7 days before a session begins.
