On Friday, March 4, 22 Ursuline juniors and seniors with an expressed interest in engineering visited GE Aviation in Evendale, meeting with several employees, some of whom are Ursuline alumnae.

This is the second year that Ursuline students have had the opportunity to meet and network with engineers at GE Aviation. Students had the opportunity to tour the engine manufacturing facility, seeing where test engines are built. Students saw new techniques in 3D printing, and discussed blade design with a lead designer regarding factors that affect the design of jet engine blades, including the number of blades, material, and shape. Students then met with five representatives from GE who spoke to the students about their personal career paths.

“We are very proud of the partnership we’ve developed with GE Aviation,” Ms. Monika Nunez said. “Our students look forward to this visit, knowing that they will be able to meet with successful women engineers who have a vested interest in seeing young women succeed in this field.” Ms. Nunez is a member of Ursuline’s Science Faculty and teaches Ursuline Introduction to Engineering class.

As part of the visit, Ursuline students heard directly from four Ursuline alumnae currently working at GE Aviation, including Christina Beer ‘11 who is part of GE Aviation’s Information Technology Leadership Program, Patricia Morand Clemandot ‘99 who serves as a Sourcing Program Leader, Annah Castellini McDowell ’90 who serves as a Sourcing Manager, and Abby Wulf ‘12 who is a student at Michigan State University and participating in her third co-op at GE. McDowell and Wulf participated in the panel along with three other GE representatives: Maura Armanios, Bryne Berry, and Pam Battle, all of whom discussed their career path and educational background.
