World Languages students earn high marks in National Exam

UA students studying world languages have seen the fruits of their labors in a big way. Freshman Alisabeth Marsteller earned a perfect score on the level 1 National Latin Exam. Senior Olivia Stephenson earned the German-American Citizen's Award for outstanding work and dedication to the study of German history, language and culture. Students who scored high on the German National Exam were Anna Kerr, Nikki Volpenhein, and Alex Kalkhoff. Several Spanish students attained a gold, silver or bronze award for their achievement in the 2011 National Spanish Exam. This is one of the largest exams of its kind with over 140,000 students participating. At the Chapter level students receive a cash prize and certificate of honor. Gold awards in the regular category, Level 1 were Rebecca Byrne, Hannah Hoffer, and Lauren Vesprani. On Level 3 they were Megan Fleming, who also placed 4th in the Chapter, Emily Lotterer, who also placed 3rd in the Chapter, and Megan Stifel. Gold Awards in the Outside Experience category Level 1 were awarded to ElizabethTyger, who also placed 1st in the Chapter; Level 3 to Kelly Kopchak, who also placed 1st in the Chapter; and Level 4 to Marisa Reddy, who also placed 3rd in the Chapter. Silver Awards in the Regular category were presented to Level 1 – Kelly Spiller; Level 2 – Cate Brinker, Kelly Kaes, and Elise McConnell; Level 3 – Katie Smith; Level 4 – Sarah Fitzpatrick and Amanda Sosnowski. Bronze Awards in the Regular category were presented to Level 4 – Kate Brewer. Bronze Award in the Bilingual category was preented to Level 4 – Carly McCain, who also placed 1st in the Chapter. A Chapter 1 Bilingual Award was presented to Ana Aguilar.
